Veterinary supplies FAQs

Can my vet take care of rare animals?
This is a worry that many people have. No two animals are exactly alike. This means they all need to be treated in different ways. The fact is that most veterinarians are best trained as generalists to deal with typical household pets like dogs, cats, birds and hamsters. But all veterinarians have experience helping a wide variety of animals. If your rare or exotic animal needs treatment, there are specialty veterinarians that will help you.

What about farm animals?
For farm animals, veterinarians often will make house calls. Likewise, when these situations arise, there are specific animal doctors that deal with these situations. Often you will find in rural farm communities that there are veterinarians that specialize in dealing with farm animals. Unlike their counterparts in the city, they deal much less with cats and dogs and much more with horses and cows. There are some very well-trained veterinarians who devote their time to assisting farm animals.

What do I need to do to become a veterinarian?
If the question is do you need to go to a typical medical school, the answer is no, but doing so could help. Even if you do, you will need to go to a special veterinary school in order to truly learn how to help animals. One of the nice things about knowing how to help humans is the fact that in many respects humans and animals are pretty similar. This does not mean that they are exactly alike, but it does mean that veterinarians and doctors can take a little bit of information and apply it to humans or animals. The more specific the information, the harder it is to transfer from one to the other.

Where is the best place to find veterinary supplies?
While you can go to a store that specializes in selling pet products, the supplies at a place like this are limited. There are many who consider it to be better and more cost effective to buy these supplies from a place that sells them directly. One of the best places to buy these supplies is online because there is a wide variety from which to choose and find good deals at the same time.
